Aries:

Our courageously passionate optimists.

This dance was written to honor and embody the spirit of Aries. It is inspired by some of the more honorable attributes of this constellation: Bravery, confidence & determination.

Full disclosure… I have an Aries moon, so this added extra dimension and weight in regards to my responsibility to the embodiment of this sign. I love my Aries moon. It gives me the drive I need to get things done even when I feel like I can’t do it. It’s like the Nike symbol of the zodiac. Unstoppable…

Aries is a cardinal sign that kicks off not only the spring season but also the entire zodiac wheel. Symbolizing growth and renewal, sunlight hours lengthen and days become warmer as we pass through Aries – a time of great energy, loaded with promise for the exciting year ahead. Astrologers believe that each sign learns the lessons absorbed by its preceding signs, both joyful and painful. In the case of Aries, however, there is no inherited wisdom: Aries leads with blind optimism, barreling through life with an electric joie de vivre that perfectly complements their distinctive impulsivity.

Aries’ symbol is the Ram and is associated with initiation, courage, boldness, spontaneity and inspiration. The animal is used to illustrate a battering ram (with ‘Aries’ actually being the Latin word for ‘ram’) which breaks down an opponent’s defenses with persistence and strength.

At their core, Aries do what they want and do things their way. They are unafraid of conflict, highly competitive, honest and direct. An Aries is not weighed down by the freedom of choice, and is perhaps the sign that is least conflicted about what they want. They throw themselves at the world eagerly and without fear.

History and The Myth of Aries

This constellation was first catalogued by Ptolemy, the Greek astronomer in the 2nd century. The myth behind Aries is based on a golden ram of Greek mythology. Legend states that Aries, identified with a golden ram, rescued Phrixus and took him to Colchis where he sacrificed the ram to appease the Gods. Later, Phrixus, in the face of death was saved by a golden ram with wings which flew him to safety.

Bold and ambitious, Aries dives headfirst into even the most challenging situations (which is appropriate, since the body part associated with Aries is the head). Like their fellow fire signs, Leo and Sagittarius, Aries is a passionate, motivated, and confident leader who builds community with their cheerful disposition and relentless determination. Uncomplicated and direct in their approach, they often get frustrated by exhaustive details and unnecessary nuances.

This fire sign is ruled by Mars, the dynamic red planet named after the Roman god of war. Accordingly, these courageous rams are always armed and ready for battle.

Thank you Aries season for whipping my arse into high gear.
